Information for Grandparents
CHIP could be the solution for your grandchildren’s health insurance needs.
If you are raising your grandchildren, one of your biggest worries may be how to keep them healthy and strong. Now, more uninsured kids and teens than ever are getting health insurance through CHIP. There are no upper income limits with CHIP – so no family can make too much money.
CHIP offers free or low–cost health insurance to all uninsured children and teens (up to age 19) who are not eligible for Medical Assistance.
Grandchildren that live with you may be eligible for CHIP. You can apply for all of your grandchildren that live with you using only one application. No face-to-face interview is required. For further information or to request an application call, 1-800-986-KIDS or apply online.
CHIP’s comprehensive, quality health care coverage includes:
- Doctor Visits
- Prescriptions
- Dental, Vision, Eye Care
- Emergency Care
- Immunizations
- Hospital Care
- And More...
When you apply for CHIP, your income will only be counted if you have legally adopted your grandchildren.
The grandchildren you are applying for must live in your home, but it doesn’t matter how long they have lived with you.
If your uninsured grandchildren do not live with you...
As a grandparent, you are concerned about your grandchildren’s health even if they are not living with you. If you are a grandparent whose uninsured grandchild does not live with you, you can still get a CHIP application by calling 1-800-986-KIDS or download an application to give to the parent(s).
